Chapter 13

 Hierophant

One who leads one away from too worldly concerns. Possibility of marriage or alliance of some kind

I opened my eyes hours later, and realized I had to get ready for work soon. I groaned and then felt Dylan rub my arm. I jumped a little forgetting he was there. He chuckled quietly and I burrowed my face into his side to hide the blush.
This exchange seemed alien to me. I was so confused and elated and..... And I didn't want it to end. I knew that soon I would have to leave, and go to work, but I wanted to stay with him so badly. When I moved my head slightly it ached, and I realized my whole body seemed to be either stiff or in pain. I pulled away from this angelic demon, and stretched my aching muscles and joints. As I did a feline sound slid from my lips, and I found myself listening to Dylan's amused chuckle.
I had never noticed how accustomed I had become to living only with animals, every sound and movement, every basic habit I got from the creatures that shared my home. I again blushed deep red, my hands rested now in fists on my knees, my eyes trained on them watching the blue veins show through my light skin. When he had stopped mocking my actions I felt his stare.
I wanted to be angry with him for making fun of me, but when I looked up to him he looked like a young child, wide eyes, and soft expression. I touched his hand lightly, and a grin flashed across his pale lips. I stared transfixed for endless moments, but when the phones ring incessantly resounded throughout the house I looked towards the kitchen, and was about to run and grab it when Dylan somehow got the phone, and handed it to me in the literal time of the blink of an eye.
I clicked the button and the voice of Mr. Green came on the other end. I stuttered at first, but then Dylan looked as if he were going to take the phone so I cleared my throat and answered my boss. "Hello Mr. Green." I said smoothly. The voice on the other end seemed concerned. "Is something wrong?" I said as my heart attacked my ribs, had he thought about last week, and decided to fire me for my actions? I wouldn't be able to pay the bills, not many places would hire me with such lee-way as Mr. Green. But as my head raced I heard him start to speak again.
"I just called to say you didn't need to come in today, Rachel is working late tonight, but I'll pay you for it, don't worry, so take an afternoon off for once, you're a great worker and I don't need you overexerting yourself." His cheerfulness allowed me to exhale, and after I thanked him and hung up I leaned back on the couch. I didn't know until much later that there was no girl named Rachel who worked at the diner.
Maybe I should have paid better attention.
