Chapter 16

Soon after all of them were inside, Viren and Stella had gone to their room to clean up, while Rose and Aqua had gone to a pond on the far side of the garden that hadn’t been filled with the anima’s blood. Alec had already showered, though he hadn’t had much on him. After he had gotten dressed he lay on his bed, he un-holstered the gun at his side and looked at the inscribed letters “pawn”. ‘That’s what I am huh? A pawn for these monsters. God damn it I don’t know what to do!’ He threw the gun at the opposite wall, the loud sound seemed to fill the room for a moment. ‘I should have known this job was to good to be true.’

Alec got up some time later, and wandered to the kitchen. From down the hall he could smell dinner cooking, some kind of meat, and potato’s. He heard mumbled words, and some laughter. He stopped mid step, trying to figure out how these things could be conversing so lightly after what had happened.

He heard Aqua’s voice as she yelled at Rose. “You’re and idiot, letting him shoot at you like that! What if he’d gotten past pawn during that battle?” He heard Rose answer, but she was too quiet to be heard. He decided he’d lost his appetite, and had just turned to go down the hall when he heard someone approach behind him.

“You’re rather rude boy.” He turned quickly at the velvet voice and saw the black haired women standing only feet behind him. She sniffed the air for a moment before a wry smile slid across her lips. “You really are pure human huh?” She licked her lips playfully, he gulped, but then she just laughed. “Don’t worry, human meat doesn’t sit well in my stomach.” Again she laughed.

“Pardon me if that isn’t very funny.” He said dryly.

“As if having a human here is funny.” A smooth, deep male voice came from behind Stella.

“Be kind Viren, if Miss Angelene has a purpose for him besides Vampire feed then we should respect that.” Stella said playfully as she socked the black haired male in the arm. He just looked at her like a puppy looks to an owner when they don’t understand.

            “Alright.” He relinquished.

Stella turned back to Alec, now with a full grin, her incisors rather sharp it seemed, even in the dim light. “Oh, and what I meant to say in the first place, Rose has been cooking for you ya know. We already ate, so you should at least go and have some.” She giggled before she turned, grabbing Viren’s hand, and disappearing down the hall.

Alec stood for a moment before slinking into the kitchen, Aqua looked at him for half a second before her face got red like she was about to explode. But as she stood to yell Rose quickly put her hand on her shoulder and shook her head. Aqua sighed, and started to leave the room. As she came up to Alec she looked him in the eyes, a glare on her face. “Later.” She said, as a good-bye and a warning.

She slid past him, and stormed down the hall. Now Alec and Rose stood alone. She turned back to the stove, and turned off the gas. “Food is done, I made sure it stayed warm for you.” She then turned and walked towards him, head down. She was just about to walk past him without another word, but he grabbed her wrist before she could disappear like the rest.

“You haven’t eaten yet have you?” He asked quietly. He let go of her, and walked over to the stove. He put some of the meat-which turned out to be fried chicken- and some mashed potatoes on his plate before sitting at the table. He started to eat, but looked up when he saw Rose also getting some food. She sat across from him and they ate silently for some time.

‘Well I guess at least for tonight I can pretend she’s just another girl, and that we work for normal people who have normal guests. I can save everything else for the morning.’ They ate in silence, and later, both full, went to their rooms to sleep.
