Chariot

Control over tension of opposites. Triumph over all difficulties through perseverance; a balanced life; success.

They went home at around 3p.m., but said they wanted to come over on Sunday again, they’d had fun. When I finally got ready for bed I could feel my heart beating as I thought about having fun like this again. Now all I needed…

“You wanted me?” His voice was quiet coming from behind me.

I turned and looked at Dylan, his usual crooked smile seemed a little hollow, but I was too elated to notice. I hugged him tightly and he wrapped his arms around me. “The best day…” I whispered. He mumbled something that I couldn’t understand against my hair. “Dylan…” I pulled back and looked at his mismatched face with misty eyes. “Please don’t hurt them.” My throat was burning and my head throbbed.

“They are out of my reach, I couldn’t hurt them regardless.” He touched my cheek softly, but his words were more comfort than any touch.

          They were safe.

          I’m so happy.

The next day I called Mr. Green and asked if I still had a job, he laughed and said of course, I sighed in relief. Everything was getting back to normal it seemed. Well a new normal. I got dressed and ran to the diner. I was so excited for tomorrow that I didn’t fake one smile. When that was done I went to the barn and tended to Pixie, she seemed glad to see me and I realized had she not been boarding here she’d have been killed as well.

I decided not to ride, instead I found the barns owner. “Um Miss Weir, I have a favor to ask.”

“What is it dear?” She was middle aged; curly brown hair fell in tendrils to her shoulders. Her eyes were clear brown, king and inquisitive.

“I’d like to know if you’d want Pixie… She’d be free of course, I just don’t know if me owning her is a good idea right now.”

I was happy with my decision as I walked home. She’d agreed, saying I could visit and ride whenever I wanted, but I had said a heartfelt good bye to my beloved horse, and I felt I wouldn’t be back any time soon.

Next I went to the store and stocked up on food and drinks and snacks, I had to have it delivered to my house, which meant it’d arrive tomorrow morning. When I got home I spent the next few hours cleaning, showered, and fell into bed exhausted. I smiled as I drifted to sleep.

          Tomorrow.
