He stood frozen, his eyes still shut tightly. But he didn’t feel the tooth pierce his skin, didn’t feel the blood leave his corpse. Instead when he opened his eyes the creature was again on the ground, only this time in two parts, obviously not able to rise again. He looked up and a man in his mid twenties stood his face dull and lifeless. He would have almost thought it was Dylan had he not had dark blue eyes rather than black. The man stood an inch or so taller than Alec, and wore dark pants and a dark long sleeved shirt. “Alec!” Rose said running over to him. Alec stood still. The man ripped apart another blob as it came towards them, the woman taking care of a small group near the pond. “Alec, listen to me!” Rose said hastily as she grabbed the gun from Alec’s holster and put it into his hands. “You have to fight; if these kill you then you won’t just be dead.” He looked at her blankly not understanding.
“Hey kid.” The man said without looking to them, but Alec knew it was directed to him. “If Rose or Stella die protecting you I swear you’ll wish it were you.” His voice was very cold and stern; Alec shivered, but managed to snap himself back into reality. He raised his gun and pointed at an oncoming mass. He tried to get a good shot, but his arms and hands were shaking so badly that he couldn’t even manage to keep it even remotely on target. Then he felt hands help steady his own.
“It’s okay Alec, don’t worry, we aren’t going to let you get hurt okay?” Rose said softly as she helped him get a bead on the creature, now only a couple yards away. “Fire!” Rose said as it came within a foot of them. A blue beam of light left the gun, and ripped straight through the monster’s mouth, almost ripping the whole body in two. Alec stood stunned, not ever having seen a bullet do something like that. “Good, only 5 left.” Rose said as she ran to help Stella as 3 of the creatures started to surround her. The man, who now Alec assumed was Viren, was taking on the other. But now Alec was scanning, looking for the fifth.
When he finally saw it he saw it was running towards Rose, whose back was turned as the girls tried to kill the 3 others. His heart was racing so fast it felt as if it wasn’t beating. ‘Do I save her? Or do I let it kill her then kill it? All three of them are monsters too, if I let them be killed then I can get rid of the last few blobs. I should let them die.’ The thought went so fast through his head that when he looked again it was almost as if nothing had moved. He lowered his gun.
