They talked for a short while before they went to prepare diner, Rose didn’t bother changing at that time. They made a simple diner, mashed potatoes and some hamburgers. The group ate together in a large dining room, Angelene and Dylan sat across from Viren and Stella, while Alec and rose sat at the far end. They laughed and joked for about an hour before a knock on the front door startled them.
Rose quickly got up and ran to her room to get dressed while Angelene-wearing a simple black dress- went to answer the door. Viren and Stella seemed to be quite aware of who was there, but they stayed silent. Alec didn’t know if he should get dressed-he still wore the black shorts and gray top. He was about to stand when Dylan came up behind him and put his hand on his shoulder.
“Being human and alone when we have an unexpected guest is a bad idea.” Dylan’s voice was low and stern, so Alec sat back down, and started tapping his feet anxiously. Stella and Viren stood and walked down to Alec’s end of the table and started talking to him like they had been, obviously trying to cloak the discomfort, as Dylan went to join Angelene.
Moments passed before footsteps where heard, but they didn’t enter the dining room, but rather seemed to head towards the throne room. Stella and Viren got up, “Come on let’s get you to your room.” Stella said her voice quick and quiet. Alec followed close behind her, Viren behind him. They got to his room shortly after, and as he went in he saw Rose going out of her room.
Before he could call to her Stella pushed him into his room. “Get changed quickly.” She whispered. He threw on his works clothes, and then followed them again until they reached the throne room. “Good luck.” Stella whispered before her and Viren disappeared down the hall. Alec awkwardly started into the dim room.
“Princess Rosemary you must-“He heard an older man’s voice, obviously not Dylan’s. This voice was gravely, and seemed to be almost shaky.
“That is not my name here.” He heard Rose’s voice, and saw her as he stepped into the room. He saw Angelene signal for him to come and stand between her and Dylan. The other man he saw was in his mid thirties. He was slightly shorter than average, and had gray and black hair. He wore a suit, and his eyes were a clouded red, Alec realized he had the eyes that Rose had when she had sucked the bottle dry of blood.
As he approached the masters he saw Rose stood in front of them, her eyes were their normal color, but he could see fangs in place of her canine teeth. He kept his head down so he wouldn’t have to look. “Alec, this is sir octave from Rose’s kingdom of castus, he’s a vampire.” Alec just nodded before taking his spot standing between the masters’s. Octave nodded in greeting, but quickly turned back to the she-vampire.
“Princess you’ve no choice but to return! The kingdom is in chaos!” His voice was hoarse.
I told you not to call me that!” Rose’s voice was loud and reverberated through the room. Alec saw her clenched fists, and could only imagine her expression.
“That is your title! I don’t care if here you are a lowly servant, but castus needs its ruler! I obliged with your request to live here, but you were a child! Now the kingdom needs its ruler! Stop being an infant and return with me Rosemary!” His voice was now matching hers, but before Alec fully registered what was happening he saw a flash of black as the frail looking girl rushed the older man. She grabbed his neck and the human watched as her nails dug into flesh drawing blood.
Angelene rose and quickly grabbed the smaller girl, bringing her back to the chairs. Alec saw the red eyes and inch long claws. The fangs seemed to be too big for her mouth, and yet her teeth were grinding together. The sweet quiet girl’s image was gone, a vampire stood in front of him now. And yet…
“Why do you want to upset her like this?” Alec’s voice was wavering but strong. He walked closer to the unfamiliar vampire, stopping a couple yards away. “I don’t know you, or what’s going on, but she doesn’t want to go, so why force her?” He hadn’t really been listening to the conversation prior, just focusing on what Rose must look like, but he knew she wouldn’t get so upset over nothing.
“You fool! She is the only heir to the throne, the only pure blood left in our kingdom, she needs to return and take her place as ruler! She needs to forget this foolishness of kindness to pathetic humans already and lead us!” Maybe only now Alec realized what this guy was saying.
‘A ruler huh?’ He thought. ‘She’s rich and would live in the lap of luxury, while I’m trying to make money for my family just to survive.’ He felt a silent rage bubbling up in his chest, but right now he was realizing the danger he was in.
“Now human move. Go back to your place.” The voice was stern, the eyes deep red, and fangs sharp. Alec knew he’d lost; the gun at his side was of no use. He walked back to the chairs and stood silently by. “Rosemary, pack your things, we leave tomorrow.” The man strode out of the room, and they heard the front door close.
The silence broke as Angelene and Dylan exchanged muffled words. Then they turned to Rose, now back to normal. “Will you be going?” Angelene asked, voice soft.
“No.” Rose was quiet but she had decided. Angelene nodded and gave her a quick hug before the masters left the room. Alec and Rose stood alone as candles flickered. Rose wiped her face quickly before looking up to a slow approaching Alec.
“Idiot.” He said coldly as he passed her. She looked numbly before opening her mouth.
“What?” She was so quiet, a façade he thought.
He turned on her quickly, his eyes like ice. “You have everything back there, money and servants I bet, but you work here like you don’t have anything! Here I am worrying every day that my family might starve and you just work for kicks! Idiot!” He was yelling, and she was silent, pale blue eyes unseeing.
“You don’t know anything…” She was defiant.
“I know that you’re a fool! A fool, a liar, an idiot! Not to mention you act all nice around me ‘cuz I’m human, but you’re like him right? You think I’m lower then you! I’m pathetic right?!” Some where he knew he was saying what he wanted to say to that man, but he really was mad at her too, what was he supposed to do…
“No!” She screamed.
“Liar! All you’ve done is lie to me!” He retorted.
Her mouth started to open, but closed as she bit on her lip, no doubt trying not to cry.
“He calls me pathetic, but his dear “Princess” is a weakling.” His voice was venom and he turned and left the room. He stormed down the hall and slammed his door when he entered his room. He screamed as loud as he could, yelling at her even though he was alone, at himself for believing anyone here, at his father for being ill. At every one and anything he could until he collapsed on the bed, staring at the familiar ceiling until his eyes burned and he fell into a dark sleep full of painful nightmares.
