Alec took the delay of onslaught from the vampire to check on the situation around him. He fired at two more on coming anima, their bodies flying apart. Several others growled at him but returned to eating corpses, dragging them away to escape the bullets of the human. This allowed Alec to turn his full attention to the vampire prince, who now was chanting some strange words, something Alec couldn’t decipher. He watched-horrified-as flames appeared in Oleander’s hands, licking at the air while his hands remained un-scathed. Rose quickly moved farther back, bracing herself for an attack. Soon the murderous prince dived down, his wings folded back until he was nearly upon her. He stopped within arms distance and put out his hand, the fire leaving his palm and scorching tendrils of the princess’s hair. She ducked back in time to avoid the worst of the flames, the stench of burning hair leaking into her nose.
“Sloppy work.” She said as she put more distance between them, working at an idea to defeat this monster. He was faster, more versed in attacks then she, and yet… She was confident they’d win, they had to. “Alec.” She said as she backed up to him, keeping her eyes on the prince who now floated effortlessly back into his former position, chanting more words, the flames strengthening and consuming his hands entirely.
“You have a plan?” He asked, his confidence fading as the adrenaline started to seep away, giving way to normal human terror. He looked to her hopefully, but her pale face under the green blood gave him little more optimism.
“Not a plan per say, more like a vain hope against hope.” She smiled shakily. “Hold him off for 5 minutes, that’s all I’ll need.” She looked again to the older male before seeing Alec nod. She smiled back one last time before turning and dashing for the castle entrance.
“No running away.” Oleander tsked before flying again at the girl. He kept his flaming hands outstretched, grabbing for her throat or face, intending on burning away her wind pipe. Alec quickly shot off three rounds, piercing the flimsy wings and throwing the vampire off course once more. He smiled smugly as the blonde nearly crashed into the stone wall of the castle as Rose sped inside, disappearing into the dark halls.
“She had to powder her nose, you know how girls are.” Alec cackled as Oleander stood, brushed off his right wing, then set to healing them once more, filling up the small gaps. His hands stood were flaming, his crimson eyes reflecting the flicker of fire.
He turned to Alec savagely, his face twisted in annoyance and hatred. “Then I’ll kill you first.” He spat before racing towards the defenseless human.
Just five minutes. He thought before dropping to the ground at the last moment, startling the older male and sending him sprawling over the boy’s body onto the harsh ground. Alec felt the flames lick his back, setting his clothes alight. He dowsed them with a roll before regaining his footing in time only to feel the stabbing flames torch his spine one more as Oleander connected. Alec went sprawling forward out of harms immediate way. He yelled in pain as he returned to the ground to ward off the spreading fire.
When he tried to stand again he couldn’t the oleander stepped on him, sending him face first into the bloodied street. Alec cursed as fresh, searing pain swept through him, his vision blurring. “Cockroach.” The prince said as he reached down, hand no longer lit with fire, having lost concentration on his spell when he’d been tripped. He leaned down and shoved his hand hard over Alec’s neck, pushing him to the ground.
Alec felt the air burning in his lungs, but he was unable to refresh it. Oleander clamped down tighter and tighter on his wind pipe until Alec was sure it would collapse. He watched the world turn black at the edges, a mocking smile on his lips. “Was that enough?” He choked out, Oleander’s face white with fury as he gripped harder. Alec’s cry of pain died in his throat. And as the world was engulfed in black he heard a cry that was not his own.
