Chapter 9

All he heard was a ping before she started sucking the thick liquid from the bottle. Several minutes past before she dropped the bottle. It rolled from her lap onto the floor, breaking in two, no liquid left inside. He just stared horrified at her as his hand drifted to his neck where the puncture holes had been. She licked a drop of blood from the corner of her lips and he imagined her standing over him doing the same as he was almost drained of blood.

But as he watched her he saw the red fade and her eyes return to their pale blue color. She noticed him there watching and mist formed in her eyes before tears rolled down her cheeks. They stared silently at each other, her trying to convey her apology, him easily conveying his fear and hate.

“You’re a monster.” He said coldly as a new torrent of tears ran down her face. “Stay away from me.” He walked out of the room as he heard her start sobbing, Aqua trying to comfort her not realizing that he hadn’t known.

‘What the hell is going on? She’s a flipping vampire! This can’t be real. I’m going to wake up tomorrow and either she’ll be a normal girl again, or I’ll be back home and worrying about dad.’ He thought pacing his room before he flopped down onto his bed. He stared at the celling, feeling the side of his neck again. ‘This isn’t happening, it’s just a dream.’ He thought as he laid down the right way and fell asleep.

He awoke at dinner to a knock on his door. When he didn’t answer the door creaked open and Rose walked in. He saw that she had tried to clean up her face, but there were still streaks from her tears and her eyes still red from crying. She looked at the floor, her hair making a partial veil to hide her face. “I brought you dinner sir.” She whispered, like when they had first met. She was so timid he almost laughed. Wanting to say it wasn’t him who had changed, become new; it was her, at least in his eyes.

She placed the tray down on the bed side table and turned to walk away. She stopped in the door way, almost expecting him to tell her to wait, waiting for him to apologize, but instead he let her leave without a word. She walked down the dim hall, and then went into her room. She sat on the bed in her dark room and forced back tears. ‘I can’t do anything right. I can’t escape my heritage. I wanted to leave that life behind, but I just can’t escape it!’ At this thought a new flood of tears broke free.

She curled up on her bed, the sobs wracking her body. She hugged a pillow to her chest, burying her face into it. After some minuets she finally stopped, the crying having worn her out. She fell into a light and dreamless sleep.
