Chapter 32

Alec just kept the slack jawed look as the man took Rose’s hand and kissed it. Alec was ready to protest, say he was taking their beloved princess home by whatever means, but knew he was no threat to these demons. But when he saw Rose’s shoulders slump, like she’d lost the will to even protest her position, like she was going to just settle down and-

“No!” Alec said loudly, shocking Oleander and making him step back a fraction. Alec moved forward, the shock on the vampire’s face giving him courage. “You can’t take her!” He said, now standing slightly in front of the she-vampire who was no refilled with new determination, though this determination was to protect the feeble human.

“Oh and who shall stop me?” Oleander said, voice hinting at snide-ness. He held up his hand to silence Octave as he was readying himself to speak as well. “Will you try human? What are you to her? None but her mate can stop me from wedding my fiancée.” He smiled mockingly.

Alec stopped for a moment, he hadn’t thought it through. But when he looked back to Rose, bracing himself to admit his defeat he saw her face. And it stopped him cold. Her eyes, that pale blue, looked at him, blank and unfeeling, admitting defeat before even he could voice it. But still he saw her vain hope, begging him for a plan. And as he looked he saw he eyes close, losing all hope, and he watched as the vampire princess became just a normal human girl to him. He saw her pale skin and closed eyes, imagining her laying dead in the casket wearing her red gown.

And he turned back, a new flame in his eyes. He stared down the blonde vampire, not wavering any longer, knowing that against all odds he would win this encounter. “And what if she was my “mate”?” He asked as he saw a flicker of annoyance in the once calm red veiled eyes.

Oleander laughed. “As if a pure blood would love a human.” He laughed hysterically, but Alec heard the waver behind his mockery.

“And what if she did?” Alec said coldly. Oleander stopped, and slowly looked back to him, eyes seeming to turn dark and brooding.

“Prove it.” The blonde vampire was now fed up with this game, shooting daggers through Alec with his eyes, but the brown haired boy waved him off, a grin peaking at his lips, adrenaline prodding him on. He turned, seeing Rose’s face white with shock, eyes wide. Alec gave her a quick wink and watched as her hands unclenched before he moved forward and kissed her gently on the lips for a fraction of time before pulling away. He looked back to the men, and shrugged.

“Good enough? I don’t much like PDA.” He said before chuckling to himself, he watched as Rose’s “fiancée” went paper white with pure rage. But soon he had calmed himself, though only enough to speak through gritted teeth.

“A kiss like that is nothing, friends kiss more passionately then-“ Alec didn’t let him finish before he turned and pulled Rose to him. He hooked an arm around her waist and one behind her head, forcing her as close to him as possible. He roughly pushed his lips on hers, moving them rapidly as he felt her hands creep up onto his face, gently holding his cheeks and entwining into his hair as the kiss progressed.

They pulled apart as their lungs screamed for air, their faces flushed, hair ruffled. This time Alec heard Oleander’s teeth grinding themselves down, a sharp thud causing both of them to turn. They saw a large dent in the stone wall, Oleander’s fist still in place in the center, blood trickling down. His eyes, pure red, glared at them, full of only hate and contempt as he lost hope of this being some joke. Alec felt his courage ebbing, but when Rose’s hand held his he regained his voice. “Now I’ll be taking her home.” He said nonchalantly.

“You’ll regret this.” The blonde’s voice was cutting and like ice, his jaw tight. He turned quickly and stormed away as Octave followed quickly, the quiet man now chattering to himself as he retreated after the enraged prince.
