Chapter 34

Rose stood in her once glorious crimson dress, now stained with green coagulating blood and the red human blood. Her purple hair was matted with more blood, her face smudged with it. The smell was horrid but she ignored it as she glared down her counterpart only yards away now, his face showing delight in her anger. “Such sympathy for these-“ He said lifting up a human corpse, the blood gushing from a wound in the leg. The limp corpse seemed to be nothing but a bug to him, light and useless. He held it by the head, a young girl, mid twenties; face still twisted in pain and fear. And without thought he crushed her skull, the creaking of bones giving way to the smashing of brain matter. Then he tossed the mangled corpse to the anima, who started tugging on it, ripping off limbs and clothes.

Oleander gave the princess a sick smile. “You shouldn’t have denied me.” He slurred and he walked closer, Rose’s claws at the ready.

“And if I hadn’t?” She spat, he just chuckled, though his eyes burned with hate.

“I planned on you baring my child,” He started, circling her casually at just a distance out of her reach. “I’d kill you afterwards of course; blame it on childbirth or some such thing, no one the wiser.” His smile widened in an insane manner, his eyes becoming crazed. “Then I’d combine our kingdoms, be all powerful! I’d kill anyone who opposed me with my armies of vampire and anima, destroying the wolves and nix and ruling this world!” He stood now facing her, his back to Alec who stood wide eyed, not being able to get the look of the dead girl from his mind whose remains now lay scattered and naked for all to see. “Finally I’d take the lives of those reapers, give their souls to the anima, be deemed a hero in a world without death!” This got Alec’s attention as he caught the reality, what this man was thinking.

Though to the human a world without death is perfect, no hurt of loss, no good-byes. But something in him made him pull up his gun-although shakily- and pull back the trigger. The sound reverberated in the streets as the blue streak hit the male vampire in the back of the skull. But without so much as a flinch from the pain he turned and his red eyes caught on the boy. Within seconds Oleander was on him, about to gouge out his still beating heart. “But YOU!” He screeched, the sound nearly rupturing Alec’s eardrums. “YOU ruined my perfect plan!” Alec thrashed wildly, but the blonde merely pinned him down, the creaking of Alec’s arms threatening a break.

“But no matter, I’ll kill you both and take this kingdom; my plan with resume and you’ll both die for interfering with me!” His hand reached to Alec’s chest, and nearly was upon his flesh when he saw Rose, her hair falling behind her. She ripped Oleander away, throwing him into a nearby building, denting the brick wall. She quickly hauled Alec up before turning back to their attacker.

“Take care of the anima, I’ll deal with him.” She growled as she saw the blonde regain his footing. Alec just nodded dumbly before firing at two of the blob-ish creatures. Rose sped off towards Oleander, trying to grab his throat, but the male was more adept at fighting and easily dodged her, moving away before standing still in the street.

“How foolish dear Rosemary, your brother was so much better at fighting then you, and yet I killed him. How will you hope to defeat me then?” He chuckled as his eyes darkened, now pure dark red rather than the former mist. Alec turned in time to see the dark black wings sprout from the vampire’s back. At this point he couldn’t find any more shock in his body, anything could happen now in this world. And with one mighty beat the man was in the air, the wings in time flapping to hold him stationary 30 feet above the ground. “And your parents…” He crooned, “How easily I slit their throats.” He made a motion, sliding his hand across his neck. “And without question your adviser let me in, allowed my courtship of you, and gave you to me to unite our kingdoms in a time of weakness. How foolish.” He laughed darkly before swooping down, nearly beheading Rose.

Rose fell to her rear, and stayed on the ground, face full of sorrow and hate and fear. “It was you…” Almost a question the words spilled out in a whisper. She sat now not as a fighter, not as a vampire even, but as the orphan that she was, alone and scared. Oleander came down again, this time set on his prize, waiting to rip out her intestines and relish in her screams.

“Rose!” Alec shouted as he sent two rounds through the vampire’s wings, obviously weaker than their bodies. The bullets slashed through, sending the creature off course. Oleander managed to stay in the air, not much phased as he quickly repaired his wings.

“Fool, as if a weak weapon like that could damage a creature of magic.” He grumbled as the holes filled and he set about getting a bead on his prey once more.
