When finally the creatures backed up Alec lay battered bruised and scratched, but otherwise unharmed. He stood shakily at first, then firmly as he got hateful glares from the monsters that had only just been on him. He looked for Rose, thinking she must have ended the onslaught, but he didn’t see her anywhere. He started forward, watching the predators. But soon they all turned and started back on their business and after moments the atmosphere changed completely, from one of bloodlust to one of normalcy.
This unnerved Alec more than the glares and shouting. What were they planning? He walked down the slightly busy street, no cars or bikes or buses. Just people-vampires-walking. And then he saw others mixed in the crowd. Their clothes were obviously worse for wear, they looked slightly boney and disheveled. There were many of them, normal complexions, normal colored eyes, no fangs or claws. He was sure they were human.
He almost wanted to talk to them, even hug them, just because he wasn’t the only human here-he hadn’t seen or even talked to another human in what felt like ages. But these people were skittish, avoiding him completely. So he kept walking, he saw the center of town, a wide open area surrounded by stalls and shops, a large fountain in the middle. He walked to the fountain and looked into the clear water.
The reflection on the water shocked him. What looked like above him in the reflection was a castle. He looked ahead of him, away from the liquid. Straight across the center was a large gothic style castle. Complete with towers and turrets, a large wooden door several people high stood as the entrance; windows, some stained glass, reflected the afternoon sun. Alec gaped at the stone building before walking forward, some vampires grimacing at him before walking away.
He knocked loudly on the wooden barricade of a door several times before it creaked open, two slender humans stood behind it before moving aside to allow Alec in. Once he was out of the way they closed the door, both men only a year or so older then the brown haired boy. Both wore black clothes, though they were ripped and tattered and too short. They had black hair, one with dark brown eyes, the other hazel. “Where’s Rose?” Alec asked as he looked around, this castle had many staircases and halls; it’d take ages to find her room.
But when he looked to the humans they were already walking away into a small, dark corridor. “Wait!” Alec yelled after them but they were already gone. “Damn.” He said under his breath as he picked one of the staircases and started climbing.
